Elephant Beach is one of the most famous destinations on Havelock Island. It is not just a beach but a central destination for all kinds of water sports activities. You can visit Elephant Beach from 8 am to 5 pm. In this article, we will discuss how to reach Elephant Beach and various water sports activities offered at Elephant Beach.
Firstly, to reach Elephant Beach, you can visit the beach either by a rented bike or a boat. Petrol is affordable on the Island around Rs. 90 per liter and you can easily rent a bike from the local shops by providing ID proof and a driving license. Yes, no one will entertain you if you don't have your driving license. A Scotty will cost you anywhere around Rs. 300 to 500 per day, we rented a Honda Dio at Rs. 300 per day. The way to Elephant beach is on the same path as Radhanagar Beach. You have to park the bike at the parking area of Elephant Beach, from there you need to do a short hike of around 2.5 km through the jungle and finally you are there. You can book a guide from the starting point so you don’t get lost on the track.
The second option is you can book a boat ride from Havelock Jetty to Elephant Beach. This may cost you around Rs.1000 for the return trip with a complimentary 10 minutes of snorkeling. We were tired from our previous day’s journey so we decided to go on a boat. We were given around 2 to 3 hours to explore and enjoy water sports activities and had to return to the Havelock Jetty on the same boat.
Once you are on the beach you will find a lot of agents approaching you for water activities. You can choose various water activities like Snorkeling, Glass Bottom Boat Rides, Sea Walking, Speed Boats, Parasailing, Banana rides and Jet Skiing. You enjoy almost every water activity on the beach except Scuba Diving. You can do Parasailing all around the year but it depends on the weather conditions. When we visited Elephant Beach in October 2021 parasailing was closed due to weather conditions.
There are changing rooms and lockers available all over the beach. You can change and keep all your belongings in the locker to enjoy properly and worry less. We only did snorkeling as our Scuba Diving was planned at Havelock Island. Snorkeling at Elephant Beach cost us around Rs. 800 per person after a lot of negotiation and it was really good. I will attach some images of my snorkeling experience. Snorkeling is recommended for people of all age groups and can also be done by people who don't know how to swim. You will put on a life jacket and float on the water by facing down enjoying the corals and marine life beneath the water. It is really a good experience as the water on Elephant Beach is very clean and clear.
Apart from the water activities, you can simply enjoy the beauty at this beach. You can swim in the crystal clear and clean water or simply lie around the beach and sunbathe. You can simply take a walk on the beach and feel the wind over your skin or you can have snacks on the beach and I will definitely recommend the fruit salad which is tasty and energetic to have on the beach.
This was my experience on Elephant Beach and if you are considering visiting Havelock Islands don’t miss this beautiful beach. You will definitely enjoy water sports activities here. You will not feel like you are in India. I have no words to express my thoughts about Elephant Beach, it is too good to be a true kind of destination.
